Milo Manara, Capt Easy, Grimm Fairy Tales, Jaime Hernandez, New Statues & Warehouse Finds, Shadow Superpack 2, Doc Savage & more, Notes on Star Trek

Our local comic show, Sac-con, was last week, first time in a new location. Turned out to be our best-ever Sac-con, not bad when everyone was wondering how the move would affect attendance. New folks showed up, including comics historian Michelle Nolan, who came down from Washington to check it out. We both found some fun Golden Age comics for our collections. Next show is in October.

ROY CRANE'S BUZ SAWYER Volume 2: Sultry's Tiger --By Roy Crane.
Highly Recommended. Dailies & Sundays, 1945-47. Roy Crane's high octane adventure strip, more serious than Wash Tubbs & Capt. Easy, lasted four decades! Crane was among the most admired strip artists among his peers. He was realistic yet with a cartoony edge when needed; his girls are always to die for. His high-flying pilot Buz was brave and steadfast, a daring flyer during the war and just as daring afterward, the time period in which this collection takes place.

DE LEMPICKA -- Highly Recommended. Warehouse find, 1993. Tamara de Lempicka (1898-1980) was the legendary free, fashionable and fascinating lady at the forefront of art deco artists in the years between World War I and World War II. Leonard Nimoy, City on the Edge of Forever, and Star Trek

Like everyone, we were shocked and saddened to hear that Spock is gone. It seems like just yesterday he was in the last film, in his old and his young self together. These are great films, both of the new ones.

Purely by coincidence, we’d just listed Star Trek: City on the Edge of Forever in last week’s eblast. We immediately sold out. We promptly ordered more copies, but unfortunately the publisher has to go back to press, so it will be several weeks until these arrive. This is the graphic novel version of the Harlan Ellison screenplay and it’s quite good. I enjoyed reading it, it took me back to that original episode with Kirk and Spock on Earth in the 1930s.

See our website for more Star Trek collections. As part of our recent warehouse finds collection, we just got a framed/limited edition picture of Spock and Data, signed by both actors. It’s $300, but it’s not online. Please call LaDonna here for more details.
